Guided Sören Beck to his 444lb Atlantic Halibut Worldrecord 2008
Vaeröy, Lofoten 13/5 2008. The day started with a couple of centimetres of snow and it was initially one of those days when it is quite a challenge just to catch bait fish. After some hard work we finally managed to land a few and quickly headed out to a halibut spot just north of Vaeröy.
On the first drop, something monstrous engulfed Sörens bait and after a solid strike he was hooked into a real leviathan in some 60 feet depth of water. After only 20 minutes of very hard pressure we had the fish along the side of the boat but the hard work didn't stop at that as it took three attempts with gaff before we could finally drag the enormous fish onboard.
Later that morning at the local fish reception it turned out to be the largest Atlantic halibut ever caught using a rod. The beast was 8 ft 1 in long and weighed 444 lb!
